{"id":5672,"date":"2021-10-22T08:58:42","date_gmt":"2021-10-22T15:58:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thedaily.ca\/news\/?p=5672"},"modified":"2021-10-22T08:58:42","modified_gmt":"2021-10-22T15:58:42","slug":"the-canada-recovery-benefit-is-ending-with-a-new-one-taking-its-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thedaily.ca\/news\/2021\/10\/22\/the-canada-recovery-benefit-is-ending-with-a-new-one-taking-its-place\/","title":{"rendered":"The Canada Recovery Benefit is ending, with a new one taking its place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) will come to an end on October 23rd and will be replaced with a new program called the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit, which can come into effect in the event of local temporary lockdowns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As the CRB has done up until now, this new benefit, the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit would provide $300 a week to workers who are subject to a lockdown including those who are ineligible for employment insurance.\u201d said deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland during a news conference.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) paid $300 per week and was available for people not eligible for Employment Insurance (EI). Those not employed or self-employed for reasons related to COVID-19, or those who had their income reduced by at least 50 per cent due to COVID-19 also qualified.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese support measures were always designed to be temporary to get us through the crisis,&#8221; said Freeland. \u201cWe\u2019re now in a new phase, one that is very different from the darkest days in the fight against covid\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Canada Recovery Sickness Benefit (CRSB) and the Canada Recovery Caregiving Benefit (CRCB) will be extended until May 7th, 2022.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The total cost of these measures through May 7th of next year will be $7.4 billion, that compares to the $289 billion we have spent on income and business supports since the start of the pandemic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ottawa also announced it will <a class=\"link rapid-noclick-resp yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ca.finance.yahoo.com\/news\/ottawa-to-replace-wage-rent-subsidy-programs-with-targeted-supports-161905350.html\" data-ylk=\"slk:replace wage and rent subsidy programs;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\">replace wage and rent subsidy programs<\/a> with targeted supports.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB) will come to an end on October 23rd and will be replaced with a new program called the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit, which can come into effect in the event of local temporary lockdowns. &#8220;As the CRB has done up until now, this new benefit, the Canada Worker Lockdown Benefit [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":5671,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_et_pb_use_builder":"","_et_pb_old_content":"","_et_gb_content_width":"","cybocfi_hide_featured_image":"","_glsr_average":0,"_glsr_ranking":0,"_glsr_reviews":0,"footnotes":""},"categories":[7,8,6,4,1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5672","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-covid19","category-general-news","category-justintrudeau","category-lockdowns","category-uncategorized","et-has-post-format-content","et_post_format-et-post-format-standard"],"yoast_head":"<title>The Canada Recovery Benefit is ending, with a new one taking its place -
