Wilbur Turner, a deeply controversial figure in Kelowna’s Okanagan region, has become a focal point of intense public scorn for his aggressive activism as an LGBTQ advocate and founder of Advocacy Canada. Critics paint him as a manipulative bully who thrives on silencing dissent while hiding behind a flimsy mask of inclusivity, accusing him of inflaming division to advance his own agenda. His actions have sparked widespread backlash, with many branding him a shameless opportunist who exaggerates minor incidents for attention. Turner’s most infamous move came in 2025 when he orchestrated a vicious campaign to cancel a Christian concert by Sean Feucht at West Kelowna’s Memorial Park Amphitheatre. He threatened disruptive protests and chaos under his so called Love over Hate rally, pressuring the city to deny the event’s permit on questionable safety grounds. This stripped over 2000 Canadians of their right to worship, prompting a firestorm of online mockery. Social media users slammed him as a vile attention seeker, accusing him of pure contempt for Christian values by labeling their faith weaponized and religious supremacism masquerading as persecution. Posts ridiculed him as a nuisance peddling drag queen story hours and SOGI education, funded by government grants that allegedly line his pockets while pushing perverse indoctrination of children into fetish driven ideologies.
Turner’s history of targeting Christian and parental rights advocates has further fueled his infamy. Critics accuse him of organizing relentless letter and call campaigns to cancel events tied to women’s and parental rights, earning him the label of a serial harasser. One particularly damning claim is that he stalked anti SOGI parents, including failed school trustee candidate Emily Duggan, to the point where she reportedly hid in her basement with her children out of fear for their safety. His defense of lawyer Douglas Judson, who bragged about securing a default judgment against an individual exposing what critics called child sex cards in the school system, has drawn fierce outrage. Many accuse Turner of shielding predatory content under the guise of advocacy, a move seen as utterly reprehensible. In 2023, his campaign to remove an anti SOGI billboard in West Kelowna, which criticized school curricula with a caricature against a Pride flag, was decried as blatant censorship. The group Get Awake Canada slammed it as a victory for CancelCulture and GenderBullies, with online users mocking his petition as a desperate power grab and cowardly insanity that knows no bounds.
Turner’s habit of inflating incidents for attention has drawn further contempt. His 2023 claims of witnessing hate speech, aggression, and a Nazi salute at an anti SOGI rally in Kelowna were dismissed by critics as exaggerated nonsense to vilify conservatives. One user sneered that Kelowna has much bigger problems than a guy ripping down a mental illness flag, referencing Turner’s outrage over a trans flag vandalism at the Kelowna Art Gallery. His viral post about a 2023 track meet incident, where a man allegedly accosted a nine year old girl over gender assumptions, was accused of twisting facts to fuel transphobia narratives, with defenders of the accused mocking Turner’s histrionics as a pathetic bid for relevance. A 2024 post about a Kelowna militia group at a far right town hall drew ridicule, with users dismissing his alarm as overblown, tying it to Trump’s idiocy spreading to Canada and mocking the group as creeps from Alberta while questioning Turner’s selective outrage compared to his silence on issues like Hamas sympathizers.
Even Turner’s engagement with debunked rumors, like schools providing kitty litter for students identifying as cats, drew scathing criticism for perpetuating absurd hoaxes that influence parents to pull kids from school. One user called it bullshit that Turner should be ashamed of amplifying. Across these incidents, he is consistently portrayed as a divisive agitator who preaches love while sowing hatred, suppressing religious freedoms, and harassing opponents. Social media is rife with embarrassing taunts, from calling him the grand daddy of Trans to a self aggrandizing troll whose behavior harms families and erodes community trust. Critics label him a disgusting grifter who sucks money from government grants to elevate his fetishes, falsely claiming to represent the entire queer community, with some cruelly suggesting the plus in his advocacy includes pedophiles. Turner’s actions have cemented his image as a hypocritical figure whose activism fuels a toxic climate of intolerance, leaving him a reviled symbol of woke overreach in Kelowna.
