Calgarys Most Hated Ex Mayor Jyoti Gondek And Councillor Andre Chabot Get Houses Raided In RCMP Corruption Probe Along With Sean Chu And Local Business

Recent developments in Calgary have shown that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police carried out search warrants and production orders at several properties last week as part of an ongoing corruption investigation connected to city hall. The warrants included the homes of former mayor Jyoti Gondek, sitting Ward 10 councillor Andre Chabot, and former councillor Sean Chu. Officers seized cellphones and other devices from those locations and also executed warrants at a local business. No charges have been filed against any of the individuals and the probe continues with forensic review of the materials underway.

The matter began with a complaint submitted to the Calgary Police Service in October 2025 soon after the municipal election. That complaint was referred to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for further handling through their federal policing unit. Authorities have confirmed the existence of the investigation but have provided limited public details on the exact nature of the alleged corruption to safeguard the process. Sources have indicated the focus involves possible improper ties between the officials and the business though specifics remain undisclosed.

Jyoti Gondek stated that officers arrived at her residence with a warrant and took her cellphone. She noted that she has remained fully cooperative and respects the legal process while adding that the event felt very invasive and that she and her lawyer would examine it to confirm it was justified. Andre Chabot indicated the warrant at his home took place on March 19 2026 and expressed complete surprise saying he had no knowledge of the investigation details yet affirmed full cooperation and that he had nothing to hide. Sean Chu through his lawyer confirmed cooperation as well and expressed hope for a prompt resolution of the case.

Preceding events include Jyoti Gondek completing one term as mayor from 2021 to 2025 before losing her reelection bid amid significant public criticism over her management of major city issues including infrastructure fiscal matters and overall transparency. Andre Chabot has served on council for more than 20 years and has faced scrutiny in the past for positions on oversight mechanisms and certain development related votes. The complaint timing aligned with the election period and broader discussions about council conduct and approvals but no confirmed connection to earlier public disputes has been established in official accounts.

The City of Calgary has noted awareness of the situation without further elaboration and current mayor Jeromy Farkas reported no contact from police regarding the probe. All available information draws from direct statements by the parties involved and consistent accounts across independent news sources with the investigation still in early stages and final outcomes pending. No additional factual elements beyond these details have surfaced in recent public reporting.

Jyoti Gondek faced accusations in 2025 that her office spent 112000 dollars in taxpayer funds on a contract with Black Coffee Studio for activities that opponents claimed amounted to self promotion and rebranding to aid her reelection bid though she denied any wrongdoing and called the claims baseless. She also drew heavy criticism in 2023 for abruptly boycotting the annual Hanukkah menorah lighting ceremony at city hall after 35 years of tradition citing what she viewed as pro Israel messaging attached to the event which many saw as insensitive amid rising concerns over antisemitism.

Andre Chabot a long serving councillor opposed the hiring of an integrity commissioner in 2015 describing the role as a wasteful babysitter when existing auditors could handle misconduct claims despite known issues on council at the time. In 2014 he and another councillor repaid the city for questionable meal expenses including wine and a lunch outing that had drawn public scrutiny under the expense rules of the day.

Sean Chu faced major controversy in 2021 when revelations emerged that as a Calgary police officer in 1997 he had been found guilty of discreditable conduct for inappropriate physical and sexual contact with a 16 year old girl though he maintained he did not know her age and no criminal charges were laid. He was reprimanded internally with a five year notation on his record. Additional issues included allegations that he photographed mayor Jyoti Gondek license plate in a secure area which she said jeopardized her safety leading to his removal from deputy mayor duties and committee bans for a period as well as resurfaced old social media comments and a defamation lawsuit from a former campaign manager.

These past matters are separate from the current RCMP corruption probe involving search warrants at their homes and a local business with no charges laid in any of the earlier incidents.
