FEATURED HEADLINE
Two closely related Canadian domain names, heritagefiguresofcanada.ca and heritagefigures.ca, were registered in early April 2026 as props for a deliberate deceptive scheme. Heritagefigures.ca was created on April 2, 2026 through Squarespace Domains Canada Inc. The longer domain, heritagefiguresofcanada.ca, was created on April 6, 2026 and registered through Domain Robot Enterprises Inc. These domains supported a completely fake company called Heritage Figures Canada that featured product pages, branding, a Vancouver address, and the contact email hello@heritagefigures.ca. The main website was fully built out with collectible figurines including a Sir John A. Macdonald prototype, then completely pulled down after exposure, while the shorter domain remains online with only a basic coming soon placeholder.
This operation was executed by NLT1 Productions Inc., a company incorporated in February 2025 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, with Ryan Moccasin from Saulteaux First Nation as the sole director who bears direct legal responsibility for its actions. Dakota Ray Hebert from Meadow Lake and English River First Nation served as a key creative alongside Gitz Crazyboy from Piikani First Nations. Igor Vamos, an American activist and co-founder of The Yes Men, was brought in as a producer to carry out the hoaxes. Molly Gore, an American producer, posed as Pam Gibson in emails to targets.
The project titled Counting Coup, also known as Northland Tales, used months of calculated lies. The team created fake identities and staged friendly interviews. They sent phony consulting contracts and built trust with promises of ambassadorship and promotional work tied to Sir John A. Macdonald figurines. Emails from Molly Gore as Pam Gibson discussed filming at targets’ homes with small crews and accommodations for children. Igor Vamos posed as Michael Smith and expressed excitement about collaboration. These interactions collected personal details including home addresses, phone numbers, and family information before the ambushes turned hostile.
The targets were chosen for criticizing residential school narratives and defending historical figures. They included Lindsay Shepherd, Frances Widdowson, author Jerry Amernic, an unnamed RCMP officer, later Dallas Brodie, and Conservative MP Aaron Gunn. The production team attempted to lure Aaron Gunn with promises of reclaiming the legacy of Sir John A. Macdonald. On May 12, 2026, CBC confirmed its direct involvement. Lindsay Shepherd emailed the broadcaster and received a written reply from Katherine Wolfgang, the Head of Public Relations for CBC. Wolfgang stated that the production is a CBC Entertainment initiative also involving APTN. This confirmation makes the public broadcaster fully on record as behind the deception.
The project received taxpayer funding as part of a 6.3 million dollar allocation from the Indigenous Screen Office announced on April 10, 2025. CBC and APTN added further public money through partnerships. The full 6.3 million dollars was split among 28 Indigenous led projects. More than 13 months later as of May 13, 2026, none except for the deceptive activity in Counting Coup has produced any publicly released video, series episode, or finished film. Senior CBC executives with potential oversight include Marie-Philippe Bouchard, the President and CEO of CBC Radio-Canada. Douglas Smith serves as Executive Vice President of CBC. Lea Marin is Director of Development for Drama at CBC and has been involved in Indigenous content partnerships. Katherine Wolfgang as Head of Public Relations directly confirmed the project in writing.
This entire situation reveals a taxpayer funded deception operation that meets the legal threshold for fraud under Section 380 of the Criminal Code of Canada. Ryan Moccasin as sole director, Dakota Ray Hebert, Gitz Crazyboy, Igor Vamos, Molly Gore, and the CBC executives who enabled this scheme used deceit and falsehood to defraud both the participants and the public of money, time, and service. Public money paid for phony websites, fake contracts, months of grooming, and hostile reveals designed to damage reputations. The deliberate creation of fake businesses, the collection of personal information under false identities, and the ambush tactics against citizens who hold dissenting views constitute clear fraudulent misrepresentation. Katherine Wolfgang’s email confirmation leaves no doubt about institutional involvement. The evidence from domain records, emails, funding announcements, and direct victim accounts paints a complete picture of public broadcasters using taxpayer resources for ideological attacks rather than honest content creation. This scandal demands full investigation, audits, and accountability for every person and agency involved. No excuses exist for this misuse of Canadian tax dollars.
